Majic's Cowgirls Get the Blues

"Ella"

2/25/99 - 3/12/03

Ella was our first Springer, and although in many ways she was a real challenge, she was also responsible for beginning our love affair with this breed.  Ella is pictured above at four months (left) (with a broken leg; the first of two--ouch!) and again (right) all grown up.  We acquired Ella from Janet Warner of Majic Kennels in the spring of 1999.  We were looking for a pet, and knew nothing about dog shows, but Janet offered to teach us what we needed to know if we wanted to give dog showing a shot.  Ella was not really cut out for a conformation career (for several reasons), and she retired from the show ring before her first birthday, but by then we were already hooked on dog showing.

Ella was super-intelligent, very high-energy, and always kept us on our toes.  She was definitely one of those "give her an inch and she'll take a mile" (or more) kind of dogs, and posed several challenges for first-time Springer owners.  She taught us a lot about dogs in general, and Springers in particular in just a few years.  She was very affectionate, loved to give kisses, and always made us laugh.  Ella unfortunately suffered from temperament problems and a number of  health issues. Due to aggression problems with the other dogs she spent the last 8 months of her life as an only dog living with Tiffani's mother in sunny southern California, where she was the resident couch-potato and official bunny and quail chaser.  Ella was very happy with "Grandma" and made great progress toward overcoming some of her aggressive tendencies while living with her.  Sadly, Ella passed away unexpectedly at the age of four.  She will always be missed.
