About Kalwa
My name is Tiffani Morgan, and I am the person behind Kalwa Springers. I have been a lifelong dog lover, and except for during college and a few years after, have always had dogs. In 1998, I was living in Seattle, WA with my now ex-husband, and decided it was time for another dog. I had mostly German Shepherds growing up, but also several mixed breeds and a Samoyed. Although I had loved my childhood dogs, they were primarily chosen by my mother, and I wanted a breed that was uniquely mine. I was looking for a medium-sized breed, not too large, but not a small dog. I wanted a breed that would be friendly; active, but not too hyper; and easy to train. After a lot of reading and asking questions, I decided on an English Springer Spaniel. I went to a dog show, met some Springers, and fell in love. I acquired my first Springer, Ella, early in 1999, and also became interested in conformation showing. This quickly led to interests in other activities the dogs and I could pursue, such as obedience and therapy work, and to the acquisition of other dogs. With plans to show and breed, I decided on a kennel name shortly after acquiring my second Springer, Harmony, and Kalwa Springers was born. Although my ex-husband was originally involved with the dogs, and even remained so for a few years after we split up, he has since decided he isn't interested, and has no more involvement with the current Kalwa dogs. A couple of our original Springers still live with him, as pets.
In August 2003 I returned to school to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology. This necessitated a move across the country, and I was located in Creekside, PA (a tiny town near Indiana, PA, about 60 miles northeast of Pittsburgh) for four years. After finishing my doctoral coursework, I spent a year completing a predoctoral internship at Utah State Hospital. Now that I have graduated, we are relocating once again, this time to Ventura, California for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship. The Kalwa Springers are certainly well-traveled!
The dogs and I are currently involved in conformation showing, therapy work, and competition obedience, and we've started training for agility. The first Kalwa litter was born in January 2004 and I anticipate a long, happy involvement with this breed. I am committed to breeding only sound, healthy dogs with correct temperaments which meet the AKC breed standard of excellence. My goal in breeding is to produce healthy, loving dogs which will be first and foremost wonderful family pets. I strive to produce dogs which closely match the breed standard and can excel not only in the show ring but in performance events as well. Fortunately I have been lucky enough to meet many people who have been working for years to protect and improve this breed who have been willing to offer their help and guidance.
Kalwa... for excellence in conformation, competition, and companionship.
